This is a blog about Us. We, the family.

Us is herein defined as a dad, a mom, seven kids and apparently this petting zoo made up of one dog and one cat.

In mathematical terms, our family can be defined as 2 + 7 + 2 = 1ⁿ, where

2 = parents
7 = kids
2 = quadrupedal family members
and 1ⁿ = family, or the whole shebang (technical term) to the nth degree.

I'm the mom in this Us equation (or part of that 2, above).

The first thing out of people's mouths when I tell them about having six-plus kids is generally related to one of two things:

1) some kind of joke (usually lame) likening us to The Brady Bunch, or 2) queries about the status of our sanity (as in "FTMFW-- ARE YOU CRAZY?"). Generally in that order.

It may come as a shock that we are nothing like The Brady Bunch. Let me illustrate:

No groovy clothes.

And the curly hair is real, not permed.
Oh, and the dad in our scenario is straight, the mom is not a bottle blond (anymore) and the kids have never had sexual relations with one another (thank GAWD for that).

OOooohh, and there is no fat paycheck at the end of an episode in our house. In fact, "episode" means something entirely different (usually tantrum or eff-up related).

So there you go.
